Margaret “Margo” Lucille Daniels (May) Jefferson was born on August 28, 1945, in Meridan, Mississippi to Ulysses Hall and Izetta Daniels Murry, where she was lovingly reared and educated. A woman of strength, intelligence, and unwavering dedication, Margo lived a full and accomplished life marked by service, leadership, and creativity.
Margo graduated from T.J. Harris High School in Meridan Mississippi in 1963. Her athletic talent earned her a basketball scholarship to Harris Junior College. In 1964, she transferred to Alcorn A & M College in Lorman, Mississippi, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education in 1968.
In November 1974, Margo received a direct commission as First Lieutenant in the United States Army. She began her distinguished military career in January 1975 as a Finance Officer, serving honorably for more than 30 years as both an Active Duty and Army Reserve Officer. Her commitment to excellence and integrity defined her service to the nation.
Throughout her professional life, Margo held numerous challenging and impactful positions, primarily serving the government in both military and civilian capacities. Among her many roles were Program Budget Officer, Chief of Officer Management, Equal Opportunity Officer, Chief of the Administrative Services Division, Accounting Officer, Alcohol and Drug Command Officer, Training and Education Officer, Chief of Military Pay Division, and Army Emergency Officer. Her leadership, diligence, and dedication left an impression on all who worked alongside her.
Margo’s service took her across the U.S. and abroad. She was stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama; Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana; Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; Alexandria, Virginia; Ft. McPherson, Georgia; Ft. Gillem, Georgia; Ft, Belvoir, Virginia. Overseas, she served in Japan; Frankfurt and Grafenwoehr, Germany.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Margo had a deep love for arts and crafts. She approached every project with care and meticulous attention to detail. Her beautiful, handcrafted works were admired by family and friends and stood as a testament to her creativity and patience.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted son, Benjamin F. (Frankie) May II (Misty); her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin F. May II and Olvia May; her sister, Adele Afford (Ezekiel); sister-in-law Donna Murray, stepmother Patricia Hall; step-sisters, Debra and Dinah Farmer; step-brothers Darren and Michael Farmer as well as a host of nieces and nephews, family, friends and mostly “HER FUR BABIES (DOGS)”.
